Dawson Foundation Engineering was appointed to design and install a series of SFA bored piles at JCB Golf & Country Club in Uttoxeter. The project required 88 No. 300mm diameter piles, installed to a depth of 6.5m, to support a range of compressive, tensile and shear actions.

The works were completed using our specialist piling equipment and were designed in-house by our chartered engineer, allowing the piling solution to be tailored to the structural requirements of the project and the conditions on site.

The Project

The scheme involved the installation of bored piles within a well-prepared working area at the JCB Golf & Country Club. Access and platform quality are key considerations on any piling project, and this site provided an excellent working platform for the rig and associated plant.

While the setting may have been a little different from a typical construction site, the technical demands remained the same. Each pile needed to be accurately installed to specification and capable of supporting the required design actions.

The Piling Solution

Dawson Foundation Engineering installed 88 No. 300mm diameter Sectional Flight Auger bored piles, each taken to a depth of 6.5m.

Sectional Flight Auger piles are a versatile bored piling solution, particularly useful where site access, headroom or working conditions require a flexible piling method. The system is commonly used across residential, commercial and specialist projects where a bored pile solution is required.

On this project, the piles were designed to accommodate:

  • The ground conditions and structural requirements of the scheme

In-House Pile Design

The pile design was completed in-house by Dawson Foundation Engineering’s chartered engineer. This allowed the design and installation teams to work closely together from the outset, helping to ensure that the proposed piling solution was practical, efficient and suitable for the loads it needed to support.

Installation on Site

The works were completed within a tight programme, with the team installing all 88 piles and managing the practical demands of concrete supply, site logistics and plant movement.

Good working platforms are essential for safe and efficient piling operations. On this project, the platform quality allowed the rig to operate effectively and helped the team maintain progress across the site.

With the piling rig set up, the 300mm diameter SFA bored piles were installed to the required depth of 6.5m, ready to support the next stage of construction.

Project Outcome

Dawson Foundation Engineering successfully completed the installation of 88 No. SFA bored piles at JCB Golf & Country Club in Uttoxeter.

The project demonstrated the benefits of combining specialist piling equipment, experienced site teams and in-house engineering design. It also proved to be a particularly memorable week for the team, with the works completed in time for one of our team members to make it home for the arrival of his daughter.
