What is Mini Piling?

Mini piling is a term widely used to describe small-scale piling operations. It generally refers to both the equipment used to install them and the diameter of the piles. This type of piling is ideal for projects with limited access, low headroom, or urban constraints, common across Bury’s residential and commercial developments.

    Pile Sizes

Mini piles are generally considered to be piles under 300mm in diameter.  This can include various types of piles, such as bored, driven, drilled, or screw piles.

Dawson Foundation Engineering installs piles ranging from 100mm to 600mm, while piles exceeding 300mm don’t match the conventional definition of mini piling, they may still be classified as mini piling depending on the equipment used.

Larger-diameter piles, even up to 450mm or more, may still be categorized as mini piling if installed using smaller rigs. The classification is often more about access, logistics, and rig size than strictly pile diameter.

    Piling Equipment

Mini piling can also refer to the use of lightweight or compact piling rigs. Most commonly weighing less than 20 tonnes. Their weight and size make them suitable for a broad range of tasks, such as installations in environments with tight access or medium-scale sites requiring greater power and depth capacity.

This allows us to work where traditional rigs cannot, without compromising on results.
